WWYSA in the Spotlight: RYA's Video Feature Celebrates Our Green Blue Award

A few months ago, we proudly announced on our site that WWYSA had won the 2025 RYA Green Blue Team Award, with recognition for our sustainability efforts, coaching excellence, and community initiatives. (Read that post here: WWYSA – Your RYA Award Winning Club 2025).

Now we’re thrilled to follow up with something extra special — the RYA has come to our club to film a feature video highlighting our journey, and it’s now live for all to see.

From Application to Video: The Full Journey When we applied for the 2025 awards, our Green Blue entry was backed by a strong track record of environmental and club improvements — from electric outboards to solar panels, kit reuse, habitat work, and more. The committee, instructors, volunteers, and members all played a part in making that happen.

At the RYA Dinghy & Watersports Show in February 2025, the award was officially presented. Alongside the club accolade, our instructors Margaret Pell and Nigel Silman were also honoured with Inspirational Race Coach / Instructor Awards.

Soon after, the RYA reached out to capture our story on film — to see our club in action and showcase how a small club can lead in environmental stewardship.

Watch the Video — See WWYSA in Action We’re delighted to share the RYA’s video spotlight on WWYSA. It highlights not just the award, but the practices, people, and passion behind it:

This is more than an accolade — it’s our story, in motion:

How we replaced petrol motors with electric outboards

The use of solar panels and energy-saving measures

Our “swap shop,” kit reuse mentality, habitat work, repurposing boats, and more

Voices from our instructors, volunteers, and young sailors

The pride and energy that sustain WWYSA’s green ethos

What This Means Going Forward Winning an award is fantastic. Having your journey captured on video and shared by the RYA is a tremendous boost — for morale, for visibility, and for inspiring others.

But for us, it’s not the finishing line. This recognition strengthens our resolve to:

Deepen our sustainability initiatives

Share more of our learnings and case studies

Engage with members, volunteers, and the local community even more

Continue setting an example for environmentally conscious sport clubs

A Big Thank You — to Everyone This wouldn’t be possible without our committee, instructors, bosun team, volunteers, and the many “silent” contributors behind the scenes who repair, reuse, maintain, and encourage sustainable practice. Your dedication is woven into every green decision we make.

Let’s keep sailing forward — proud of what we’ve achieved, and excited for what lies ahead.
